01 SC1 Morning Sickness

I started up my 2001 SC1 yesterday morning like usual and heading off to work. Before I got out of my subdivision, the gas gauge went from exactly half down to a quarter tank, the gas light came on, the security light came on, and the service light with the wrench came on. How bizarre is that?? I shut it off and started it a second time and the same thing happened. No SES light came on so there was no code when I scanned the car. I still ran fine, but I left it home anyways and took another vehicle. Then after work I got home and took it for a ride and everything was fine. Anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks!

Re: 01 SC1 Morning Sickness

A hiccup is exactly what I was hoping for. So yesterday I started the car and drove to work and got down there just fine. Then on the way home I stopped at a convenience store for a couple minutes and came back out to start it and nothing happened. I mean I turned the key and nothing. I put the key in accessory position and it would play the radio, I put it in the on position and not all the normal lights were coming on. The check engine light was blinking and at every blink there was a tick noise, like a clock. After playing with the key a few times, it started and I drove it home with no weird lights coming on. I do have a buildup of corrosion on the positive cable of the battery which is what I'm hoping is wrong. I have tried to take off the positive cable before and the damn head of the bolt is stripped and it won't come off. I'll have to try harder today. I'm guessing if there's corrosion on the top of the cable there probably is some down by the starter too. How hard is it to change the whole battery cable? I haven't given it a hard look yet, but I'll keep this updated when I get a chance. Thanks!

Re: 01 SC1 Morning Sickness

since it happened again clearly something is ont right haha

Def clean that battery cable and connecter for corrosion. The cable is pretty easy to change. The starter usually doesnt get much corrosion at all. A mirror will be helpful to see anything on the connector from under neath the car.

Re: 01 SC1 Morning Sickness

I finally got some time to get this thing completed. I started on Sunday by getting the battery cable off of the battery, which unfortunately took the whole post off of the battery too. I took out the battery, the battery tray, and the intake in order to get the whole positive cable wires out. Instead of buying new battery cables I just went to the hardware store to get (2) 3 foot sections of 4 gauge wire. I bought the loops for the starter and fuse box ends. I also found a universal plug for the side terminal battery which is set up like the old top posts where there are two bolts and a piece of metal that are used to squish the wires into. So that worked out well, I got everything back together and all seems well. I also changed the engine coolant temperature sensor while I was in there too. Thanks for the help!!!!
