Should I buy? Volvo failed emissions...

I am interested in a 2001 Volvo S40 from private party. It is in great shape, very low miles, and a good price.

The Carfax is clean.... except...

It failed emissions about 1 year ago. It passed a few days later.

Is this a reason to avoid a car? I know it is hard to say without knowing more, but .... that's all I know right now. It is the only red flag. Is it a big red flag?

I've noticed that a few of the volvos I've pulled a report on have failed emissions. Is this common for Volvo?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

It's not common for Volvo's, but it sure is for older model Cadillac's where I seen to many shady E Test's

To make sure your getting valid value, take vehicle for an independent inspection, and at same time get another emission test done.

Yes it may be a good price - but if vehicle has issues after you take delivery then

"DO THE INSPECTION " it's peace of mind, if seller will not allow, you must walk away.

How old of Cadillacs? I've been told to stay away from 81-88, but any other particular years to be cautious about?
