Timing Question
I did my intake gasket about a month ago. Since then I noticed the engine knocks or pings, like it has low octane. It didn't do this before I pulled the distributor. I no codes or CEL. I replaced the knock sensor in the spring so I know its not that. I wonder if I may have put the distributor in a little off? Should I try turning it to see if it improves? If I do which way do I turn it?

Re: Timing Question
You can not just turn it and hope to get it set right..
You need to discvonnect the EST bypass connector and set timing with a timing light to specs. Is the EGR valve working good? MT

Re: Timing Question
I just replaced the EGR and the vac. tubing in May. I assumed it is a timing issue. Like I said, it didn't start this until after I did the intake gasket.

Re: Timing Question
Check the timing.
Most spark know is caused by the egr valve not working right. Check the egr valve ports and make sure it is opening good. MT

Re: Timing Question
So I started by checking the EGR valve. I had the engine running looking at something else and could hear a hiss. There was a vac. leak where the vac. hose connects to the EGR solenoid. After I finished the intake gasket I thought I used the same size vac. tubing to replace the old stuff. I actually used a larger dia. to go from the TB to the solenoid and it wasn't sealing, hence the leak. So I replaced it with the right dia. and it actually drives better. Thanks for the help.
