1937 Cord - a Rhapsody in Blue
Apologies to George Gershwin for the title.
Hi ...... continuing my fascination with historic vehicles, usually in larger scales, here's the 1/12 version of AMTs 1937 Cord Supercharged Phaeton. I really struggled with this kit which seems to have fitting problems galore and was in two minds whether or not to post but as I have never seen another made up I thought that the same may apply to others too - so - what you see is, I'm afraid, the best I could get out of it. Badly fitting plastic cooling pipes were replaced with tubing. There is a folding bonnet stay supplied but it doesn't open far enough to see the engine so I left if off - this allowed the bonnet to be completely removed. Looks as if Cord's design brief didn't include accessability! The windows are supposed to wind up but have a scale thickness of 6 inches! Here's what happened when I tried to fit the doors with the winding mechanism in ......and this after extensive surgery and the help of my trusty Dremel. So there she is ....... hope you like |

Re: 1937 Cord - a Rhapsody in Blue
I like it very much!
I have a soft spot for this car as it was the first model I built but in 1/24 You seem to have overcome any problems very well - especially those shocking winding windows ![]() Detailing on the engine looks great

Re: 1937 Cord - a Rhapsody in Blue
That is plain beautiful if you ask me.
Seems it was worth the pain to get it finished. Saw a coupe about a month ago on the summer cruzing here i Falun, Sweden. Spent some time in a '47 Buick Roadmaster convertible and the Cord was also doing it's laps around the city among several hundreds of cars. Unfortunatly I was out of camera so I have no pictures from the event. Niclas |

A great example of a classic. Definitely not an easy kit to work with, but you produced a beautiful model.

Beautiful model of a beautiful car! I can imagine the pain that would go into making this look passable, but you made it look great! Great job!

Re: 1937 Cord - a Rhapsody in Blue
Great build as always Martin! The engine detailing is especially nice. I've nearly finished the 1:24 Monogram version that I started ages ago - must update that thread soon

This, along with the Auburn Boattail and M-B 540-K are some of the most beautiful automotive designs ever to be produced and you've done a fantastically splendid job with this kit!!
