Exclamation Timing Chain / Oil Pump OPPS!!!

I changed the oil pump gasket,Water pump,Thermostat, plugs, oil, coolant,ac compresor, dryer, all the seals, belts,Alternator, front hubs, tie rod ends, new tires. I spent a few bucks car is still in great shape so it was justified spending the money.

The problem is when I put the timing chain cover together and put all the belts and everything on my buddy brought over his book I wanted to see the differnece and it say's you need to pack the oil pump with Petroluem Jelly uhhhhhhh sh--!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone help with this the only thing I can think of is pulling the oil filter off and packing the hole that the oil goes to the pump full of jelly?

Re: Timing Chain / Oil Pump OPPS!!!

Welcome to AF!!

I am afraid you have a great deal of work ahead of you. Packing the oil pump with petroluem jelly allows it to draw a suction during start-up so it will build oil pressure. Packing the hole at the oil filter will serve no purpose as it will not allow the pump to draw from the pan.

I don't blame you for spending the money to repair a good vehicle but next time check the book before reassembly!

Re: Timing Chain / Oil Pump OPPS!!!

Well I primed the moter by taking the plugs off the coils and did this for about fifteen to twenty min and then I started it and ran it for about two to five min I also filled the oil filter and everything is ok I have ran it for over a half hour to an hour the only problem I am still having is the floor board is still leaking on the passnger side and it is not leaking from the dash area as far as I can tell it is coming from the door possible the seal needs to be replace?
