service engine soon and ignition takes 2nd attempt to start
I have 1998 SL2. Service engine light is on and when i start car, it always starts quickly on second attempt. First attempt is just cranks over.
System was scanned and came back with 1) lean engine code and 2) cam sensor code. Mechanic stated that this would likey imply ignition modual replacement. If that didnt work, then ECM computer. Fuel pump fuel filter and O2 sensor new. Any thoughts? |

Re: service engine soon and ignition takes 2nd attempt to start
well theres so meny sensors these days if you don't take it to a well knowen shop and put it on machine so you don't have to replace this and that. but mechanic is on right track sounds like but if you do what he sais and the first thing isint that then you got to replace another part and it can run you in the bucks.so i'd have it hooked up to machine and be done with it. if you have to ask one your friends where they take theres when they have a problems.

Replace the ECTS. This controls fuel mixtures. Yours is cracked sending false data to the PCM and thus leaning out your mixture. Make sure the connector is clean and corrosion free. There is no cam sensor on the s-series. THis code is associated with the ignition system. Clean the coil packs and there contact surfaces on the tranny to ignition module. New wires and plugs may also be a good idea. The S-series PCM rarely goes bad. I have yet to see any PCM that needed to be replaced in any s-series

A big +1 on this. Except I would make a stronger recommendation on replacing the plugs and wires. Also, make sure the terminals are clean on the coil packs where the plug wires connect. |
