idles good bogs out under throttle

hello i have a 97 geo metro lsi automatic with the 1.3L i just got it recently with a blown engine so i picked up an engine from the local salvage yard with only 40,000k on it and installed it i drove it around for bout 2hrs ran great now it will idle smooth as glass but it dosent want 2 rev out u put it 2 the board it bogs out kinda,if u let off it goes alittle faster i changed the fuel filter and i took the fuel injecter off the old engine and installed that its alittle better but its not rite i was thinken possible map sensor it also surges if u hav it floored i thought maybe a timeing issue but i doubt it cuz at idle and lower rpms it runs great i also checked for a pluged cat by unbolting the downtube and then running the car no differance it also seems 2 rev better when i drive it with out the air cleaner and no its not clogged any suggestions help!!! i need this thing for gas mileage my truck is killing me

Does it smoke? You could have a bad or sticking valve. Some of these cars show up as 40,000 miles and actually have 140,000. You may also want to check out your spark plugs and wires etc.

Re: idles good bogs out under throttle

no it dosent smoke a bit and the plugs are good because i replaced them i have not yet replaced the wires i suppose it could be a sticky valve because it does have a tick that comes and goes at idle and when i first started the car it sounded like not all four of the cylinders were all there even when i was cranking 2 start it for the first time i do beleave the engine has 40,000 on it its verey clean but i think it sat along time before i bought it any ideas on how to clear this up if that is the case?

Re: idles good bogs out under throttle

If it is a sticky valve you can try spraying throttle body cleaner in the intake while it's running. I had a sticky one on my 3 cyl and used a can of SEAFOAM. It seemed to work pretty good. You can try it if you like. You can get it for around $6.00 at wal-mart. You put 1/3 of the can in your gas tank, 1/3 in your oil, and 1/3 directly into the intake. Be sure to follow the directions on the can or check out their web site for details. If that doesn't help and it is indeed a valve issue you may have to pull the head off. These things are bad about burning up valves. My 3 cylinder would do it every few weeks and I still have it pop up occasionally but not too bad. The seafoam had pretty good results as I didn't have any issues for months. The next time I decide to take the head off I'll be giveing mine a valve job.

Re: idles good bogs out under throttle

well i have 160psi across all 4 cylinders however knowing that it had a stuck valve i think that mite be part off the problem because sometimes it will be a little better and sometimes it gets worse like i drove it down the road it was alittle better not rite but better got it up 2 like 50 by the time i got it around the block it wouldnt go over 25 and if its got a lil tick at idle sometimes why cant the valve float sometime during higher rpms i guess i will pick up some seafoam and some mavels mystery oil and dump them in but that would make sense also cuz if im reving it up under the hood sometimes it will backfire threw the throttle body

When you put the timing belt on are you sure it is lined up correctly? Being a tooth off may also cause this problem.

Re: idles good bogs out under throttle

nope i am not shure if the timeing is off a tooth because i bought the engine complete and ready 2 run i peered threw the timeing cover plug and the belt looked 2 be in good shape u would think it would idle really ruff or have mixed matched compresion if that was the case i tryed ur seafoam trick its idleing outside as i type it was winding out after it sucked all the seafoam and then it would bog down again if that helps any

Re: idles good bogs out under throttle

The ignition timing is pre-set. Just be sure the marks are lined up for the belt (They probably are but it's better to start at the free stuff than with the stuff that costs money). You may be having troubles with your TPS (Throttle position sensor) but it usually throws a code. It really is hard to help sometimes sitting in front of a computer...

It's OK, You have to put the outer pulley on to keep it in place. I've had several that do that. Patience is the key, don't let it make you go ape shit...

Re: idles good bogs out under throttle

Start by checking fuses and relays. Then you can look toward the fuel filter, fuel lines, fuel pump, and fuel injector. Your problem will be in that area somewhere. Good luck...
