The surprising truth about engine oil.
Read this and see if you've been wasting your money.
http://www.xs11.com/stories/croil96.shtml One of the best on the market today is Shell Rotella T and their forumla is so good it hasn't changed in many, many years. Many a big 18 wheeler diesel truck has run half a million miles and more on it and some of those engine only shut down for an oil change or maintenance. http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?...roducts08.html |

Re: The surprising truth about engine oil.
Shell's Rotella is an excellant oil.
I noticed a number of misunderstandings regarding oil specifications in the article you cited. I wouldn't give it too much credence. |

Re: The surprising truth about engine oil.
So many articles on oil who knows what to believe. I'm a senior citizen always loved cars and where I live it's very hot and I change at 5K cars or trucks. This article blew my mind about the advantage of graphite greatly reducing friction. http://chemicals.frost.com/prod/serv...pLabel=FcmCtx4
Now if we can just find a place to buy graphite engine oil. The dust comes in a little tube good for locks and such. During the war they made Molydnebum grease for ladning gears that was slick as a whistle. "Molybdenum sulfide is useful as a lubricant, especially at high temperatures where oils would decompose." Hmmm . . . Wonder why they don't put it in engine oils? ALAS AND ALACK! Looky here! http://www.mgcycle.com/chemicals.html http://periodic.lanl.gov/elements/42.html By the way, WalMart SuperTech full synthetic oil is made by Quaker State or Pennzoil, 5 qts $15.50. Advance Auto had Rotella T 30W on sale for $10.50 I used last oil change and the ZX3 DOHC runs like a top. Don't see the WalMart Super Tech oil filters here use to be $2.10 each. |
