Wink Sick and tired of building Revells Audi R10 ??

Hi,

lots of guys here in the forum tried to build Revell´s Audi R10 (yes, a pricy model), some bought expensive etched parts, decals, other additional parts, etc. Some build the SMS/Revell Audi R10, rather expensive.

Some managed to make a good looking model with tremendous efforts, although Revell Germany doesn´t see us modelers but children as their main clients.

Today I was at a modelling friend, he showed me Sparks 1:24 model of the Audi.

Interior looks good, the wheels have 15 spokes, no too wide panel-lines, no fitting problems, no stress ;-)).

My friend paid ca. 130 Euro incl. postage.

Hi Spike,

I can understand that, nevertheless, yours is one of the great ones here, so I hope to see your R10 finished ;-)

I prefer Revell's kit to any diecast.

Just like Spike you put lots of effort in your model, you should finish it as soon as the parts have arrived.

Did you ever build a car from Revell Germany?

BTW: the Spark is a resinmodel, not a diecast.

Yes, I did. Revell kits certainly aren't perfect for sure, but the end result is way above a die cast model.

By bad about the Spark being a die cast.

Sure, diecasts in that price range are more toys.

No idea, which of Revell Germany´s model you built.
Years ago I built a lot of their own developed models for other people - always problems !! Not to be compared with f.e. Hasegawa kits, which they bring out under Revell label.

The above mentioned sentence : "Revell Germany doesn´t see us modelers but children as their main clients" is from the Revell Germany told to a modelling friend at a model show.

Sorry, but I don´t understand your sentence: "By bad about the Spark being a die cast"

I've built the Alpina B6, and the Auto Union D type. They aren't an easy job but look good in the end.
I've a few more on the bench, and some look quite good.

From a marketing POV they are right, there are way more kids around than modelers. And they are in the business for making money, not for making us happy.
But I understand your frustration.

It was a spelling mistake, that I couldn't repair due to the "Edit" button not working with Firefox 3. It was meant to say:

"My bad about the Spark being a die cast."

Re: Sick and tired of building Revells Audi R10 ??

You know, even though the Revell Audi R10 isn't perfect, it does represent the very first kit of a modern Le Mans prototype race car since Tamiya released their Toyota TSO20.

It represented a huge gamble for Revell, not only because of the unknown quantities of sales, but also because of the high cost of licensing (the death of most every racing car kit in the past decade).

It wasn't perfect, but it also wasn't at all a bad kit. Build an Airfix Peugeot 905 or a Protar Lancia LC2 if you want to see a bad modern prototype kit.
