91 caprice leaking coolant leaking coolant

i have a 91 caprice classic and it was running hot and leaking fluid and then the coolant was boing out of the coolant reservoir.. I changed the water pump and thermostat like the guy at auto zone said and its still doing the same thing...... it seams like the the leak is coming from the bottom passenger side of my engine and its leaking into my exaust and causing white smoke and some how its still causing coolant to boil in to the reservoir.. i hoping this isn't a major problem...any suggestions?

you have to pressure test radiator/coolant system , and wash off every thing to locate leak... I would guess head gasket but could be anything..including the intake manifold...possibly heater hoses etc....

with no pressure in the system coolant will boil...when this happens the water pump is unable to pump the air bubbles , then the engine overheats and the heads are history....good luck.....

Thumbs down Re: 91 caprice leaking coolant leaking coolant

no i think it's leaking in your spark plug cyl because soungs like blowen head gasket or cracked head thats the only way it can get into your exaust. unless by chance you have a freezze plug with hole in it and going threw exaust somehow only way that could be is hole in exaust is at same place but vey unlikley.and if it was heater core it would fog up your windows when your driving it.i say head gasket.

there is no way antifrezze can get in your exaust if you don't have a blowen head gasket or a cracked head.

what about a cracked block????? how about an intake manifold leak?????there are many ways this [antifreeze] can get into the exhaust by way of the combustion chambers.....that is why I stated this owner must find the leak and if necessary start breaking down the engine,,,,,

when the engine overheats.....anything is possible..

I'm not arguing..and I also said it could be a cracked head you said NO ...on the other mention items of what it could be...as I stated before and again I'll say it '' anything is possible on an overheated engine''.....

you believe it can ONLY be a head gasket/cracked head ...

Like jcat said, pressure test the system first and go from there.

Re: 91 caprice leaking coolant leaking coolant

well they dye test the head make sure they don't see no cracks on the head. then if you want to do it on your own you just buy gasket kit.so thats 75 to a 100 for kit.but where your at i don't know how much it cost to dye test and mill witch ever head it is? it's really not that hard to do it by yourself with the gasket kit.if you do it yourself buy a hanes manual for around 20 bucks at autozone or advanced. good luck......

Re: 91 caprice leaking coolant leaking coolant

If you can see the leak, it is probably external and getting ONTO your exhaust. Look for a bad freeze plug first, either side of the motor mount is likely and it will be the bitchiest one to change.
