Hi, I'm gonna be turnin 17 in september but i'm already thinkin bout wat car i wanna get, and the jetta seems like the perfect car. Does the Jetta have good handleing? Also I wanna sup it up.. get new rims n black out the windows, mayb get a kit if i have the money. Do you think that this is the kind of car i should get as my first one?? ... i was thinkin bout getin a used one 2000-2002. Help cuz I dun wanna make the wrong choice. Any comment or opinions bout this would be great, thxs.

VW's are nice and you they can be tuned but they are expensive. If you have the money there great, if you looking for speed a Jetta probably isn't cost effective. You might want to get a golf or GTI if you want speed, it really depends on what you want to do with it. Guess you have to look at the pro's and con's. Good luck

For what's worth, I bought a used 1996 Jetta with 60K and it has been great. I have had to work on the clutch, but that was expected when I bought it. It gets great mileage especially when loaded or the A/C is on and it is easy to maintain. Repairs may be expensive, but I do the work myself and it is usually easy (save my last post!!).
I don't know too much about newer models, but I am sure things have only got better. Go for it. Aaron |

I have a black 99 Jetta IV VR6 and its my first car. I think thats a really nice car for age (I'm 18). All the girls at school liked it and all the guys hated my for havin somethin they can't. The car itself is amazing. The only complaints I have are on the suspension (Its to soft!), and the tranny (its feels rubbery-I have the 5 speed). The last complaint i have about this car is the cost to maintain the car.

i have a 98 jetta and its been nothin but great. i haven't had ne problems with it and as long as u don't thrash on it or crash it its really cheap to keep. i get 29 mpg with the ac constantly and bout 35 with the ac off. its the most comfortable car i've sat in ever and it has a lot of room. huge trunk. lots of room in the engine compartment if u have the 2.0. when the windows are closed everythin is silent sometimes i can't tell if its runnin or not. can't hear nethin that is outside. and theres no creaks or rattles or ne type of noise in the car. good sound system. clean lines it looks really really good sittin there or drivin down the road. i don't kno whats up with the new jettas but the 98 has good handling. mines extremely responsive. safe. and ill come up wit more but im tired right now. theres no reason not to get one cept for price. but if u want to get quality go german at least.

i think the only good way to get stuff nemore is to order it online local stores cost way too much and oh yeah the 5spd is bomb proof. yesterday i was mad tired and i forgot to put the clutch in b4 i put it in reverse. hehe that was odd. but its just fine and runs smooth.

yeah the only problem with mine is a minor exhaust rattle...it gets kinda anoyying tho. yeah i goofed once and stuck it into third instead of first when starting to go and after it stalled teh first time i didn't realize it...so i reved it up higher than normal and it started smooth even in 3rd.
as for performance u should check this out... Quote:

if you really want a jetta get a mid 90's version..the newer ones don't handle as well and don't have as much get-up as the older ones...my friend has a 96 and his dad has a 03...and they raced and the 96 won...both stock engines.... it definitly is better

that is surely true, more you go in the older jette versions more the balance will help you with the handling . 85 to 92 jetta are the best for street rally
