Maf sensor troubles!

my check engine light came on and my truck was running terrible so i had it scanned and it came back as a maf sensor. I have a k&n cold air intake and i replaced the maf sensor and the truck is running worse. I disconnected the negative to clear the codes and a block from my house the check engine light is once again back on. When i try to accelerate the engine bogs down and the rpms shoot up. truck is not accelerating or running properly....any ideas? i checked most of the clamps on the intake and they were all tight...

What year and what truck and what engine?
What was the code no?
Try disconnecting the sensor and see how it runs.
The code needs to be cleared with a scanner.
Clear code with a scanner and see what comes back.
Post back how it goes.

Re: Maf sensor troubles!

Wiggle the wiring and see if it makes any differance in the way the engine idles.
Also try cleaning the maf sensor with carb CLEANER OR electricial cleaner.
If you have a known good maf SENSOR AND THE AIR INTAKE TUBING/HOSES ARE NOT LEAKING.
There is a repair flow chart for the voltage and wiring check on it.
a FACTORY REPAIR MANUAL or a all data online sub will take you threw the repair.

Re: Maf sensor troubles!

tonight i drove with the sensor unplugged and my truck ran normal. does this mean that there is possibly something wrong with the wiring? the maf sensor is for sure good i just bought it and replaced the old sensor and my truck continued to run like crap with the new one....is it bad to leave the sensor unplugged temporarily until i figure out the problem?

That tells you it is the sensor or wiring circuit.
It is a toss up between a bad new sensor and bad wiring.
Or even a bad pcm.
I would try another know good sensor.
If that does not do it go threw the voltage and wiring check in the repair chart for that code.
Only run it that way for test or not very long.
Good Luck

Re: Maf sensor troubles!

Yes it will be in the All data online sub.
But you you will have to purchase a subscription to get it.
You can get one year or 3 year one car online subscriptions.
10 minutes and a plastic card and you will be set to go.
Good Luck

Re: Maf sensor troubles!

May be wiring or plugin problem.
Get the repair flow chart and go threw the wiring and voltage test.
Recheck and clear codes and see what comes back.
What is the cat doing or not doing?
Or how did you get a bad cat?

Re: Maf sensor troubles!

i can hear in rattling so i feel like there is a bad baffle or something inside and when i stopped by a shop that installs exhausts the guy said that the cat was bad. i guess it wouldnt be the worst idea for me to change it since i want a high flow cat to compliment my glasspack muffler.

Re: Maf sensor troubles!

It sounds like your cat convertor was restricting your exhaust and you were running into these problems. Luckily for you it shaked loose and your truck is running less restrictive. Either way, you need a new convertor.
