Which scanner to buy????

Really don't know much about the scanners. But as my vehicles get older: 2003 Silverado and 2000 Grand Am, I think it would be a good investment. But Not sure which one to get. As I breezed through some threads in AF, it seems that the scanner only reads codes when your check engine light is on. Is this the only thing the scanner checks???? I'm willing to spend between $100-$150 on one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i am very very happy with Scangauge. reads and resets codes with a push of a button, otherwise - reads about all the info possible off your OBD2 port driving. plus trip computer and such. very practical.

Re: Which scanner to buy????

There are a lot of good scanners that will read the engine codes in your prce range.

Consider this - for about $300 you can get a much more complete scanner on ebay. I purchased a Mac Taskmaster for $250 that reads the engine, ABS, airbag and transmission for domestic vehicles.

It all depends on how serious you are. My kids have two older cars and it has paid for itself.

The downfall is that you need to periodically update the advanced scanners. Updates for this scanner are $250 for domestic. I can add Asian vehicles to the scanner for $250.
