Motor Swap

I would like to do a motor swap. I was curious which motors would be compatable and not such a "headache" to install? If you can send some links of good engines that would fit that would be very helpful.

Thanks,
David

Re: Motor Swap

Some interchange information from Hollander on the 95. Not always accurate I've found. Other close years might work just fine. Good luck.

GRAND MARQUIS 95 (8-280, 4.6L, VIN W)
LINCOLN & TOWN CAR 95 (8-280, 4.6L, VIN W)

Re: Motor Swap

Are there any smaller motors that wont have problems with moving the car. Im just curious to see if i could find something that has a little better MPG cause i love my TC sig series and i dont want to lose my comfortable ride. I am willing to lose some horsepower.

EDIT: Is there a location to get a good free online repair manual. I dont have the money to buy one right now, but as soon as i do i am going to get the haynes book

Re: Motor Swap

David, just some info I learned from being in the trucking industry and in farming.

Little engines get better mileage pulling little vehicles. Put a little engine in a big heavy car and you will have to put your foot farther into the fuel pump to get it to the same speed. Because a small engine has to work considerably harder it will not last as long.

My '95 TC Sig. gets 24/25 mpg. I have a 93 Toyota V6 that get 21/22 mpg and a 92 Honda Accord tha gets 25/26 mpg. I wouldn't think of putting any of those into a TC...too much work to start from and stop and to pull an incline. Sure, you can get smaller V8s to replace a 4.6L and for a little while it may possibly get a little more mpg, if it is a newer engine but it will work itself to death trying to do the job of a bigger brother.

What kind of mileage are you getting with your TC? At $4.00/gal it will still take a long time to pay for a changeover and, in my opinion, the smaller engine will probably be trashed before it pays for itself.

All of the above is just my opinion based on my experience of 55 years of driving. Note: I am NOT a mechanic.

Good luck on whatever you do.

Stan

Re: Motor Swap

Im only getting 15-18 mpg city and 22-24 mpg highway. I have new bosh plugs, new air filter, new oil and filter, and im getting ready to do a trans fluid change.

I have 430k miles on theorigional motor and trans. Im just thinking of possible solutions. If i were to change motors it would be to a smaller v8 or a decent size v6. unless i can find ways to increase my mpg with the current motor.
