2000 Grand Am Blower fan...not just a bad resistor.
I have had horrible luck with my wifes GA, but its paid for so I need to fix this problem. The resistor has always been suspect in this car. The first resistor I put in was because the blower only worked on 5 (high). That resistor worked for a while, then worked on 4 + 5. Then the whole thing went haywire on a trip 8 hours from home and in 0 degrees. I ended up burning out another resistor, which they do not let you return once you install, and finally hot wiring the motor for the blower right to the fusebox on the passenger side of the car. It worked good to get us home. The wire harness connections were a little corroded, otherwise everything looked good with the motor. My dad messed around with it and he got it to work on 4 only. Now today my wife says it broke again. Any suggestions on where to look...shorted wires, no ground, bad motor, would be greatly appreciated.
-also I have been getting the "new" resistors, as they had problems with the originals. |

Re: 2000 Grand Am Blower fan...not just a bad resistor.
When the resistor goes out, the fan only works on 1-3 not 4 & 5.
If thiers was/is corrosion inside the blower or inside the blower box area, then you have water leaking in and could possibly have caused your new resistor to blow and burn out the circuit somewhere. Check the voltage variation(w/key on) from the blower plug, then check the voltages from the resistor plug. The voltage should change as you switch the fan(blower)switch. I'd also pull the resistor and see how it looks. If its blown you should see blisters or burnt spots on the resistors circuit board. This is what your new resistor should look like. ![]() hope that helps!
