Major Electrical Issue or just a coincidence?

I have a 96 JGC LTD. Yesterday the Vehicle Information Center went nuts and stays lit in this configuration:



About an hour later the power windows started acting screwy. The drivers controls worked intermittently for a few then stopped all together (The other 3 windows worked via their own controls)

I did an inspection of the wire cluster between the door and body, found an exposed wire and covered it. It worked at first, but then none of the passenger side windows worked from the driver or their own controls. After restarting the car the windows seemed to be working OK, but I dont trust it.

Im thinking that the windows may be a faulty drivers side control panel and the problem I had with the passenger side was the 'window lock' button engaging on its own .

What I dont know is that if the Window Issue and the VIC problem are connected or just coincidental?

Also do you think the VIC is the unit itself or something else?
