94 Escort hard start and stalling problem

1.9L, 5speed, has 238k miles and gets 38mpg. This problem just developed over the weekend. It stalled out on me while running an errand and had a heck of a time trying to drive it back. It is very difficult to start. However, when it runs, the motor stalls out during acceleration. It gets a spark and gas is flowing to the injectors. For some strange reason, I can't get any error codes. Could the problem be the ecm computer? I hate to part with it since I had it since it was a pup. Any suggestions as to what the problem is will be appreciated !!

Start with a compression check to make sure your head gasket is good.
Also check all your vacuum lines and make sure it isn't sucking in too much air.

Re: 94 Escort hard start and stalling problem

I'm at 292,000 miles. Since there are no codes I'd look for bad EGR Valve, Spark plug wires, fuel filter and as mentioned already, vacuum. Spark plug and wire problems are more noticeable during acceleration. Pop the hood at night and start it up and look for sparks.
