Auto to Manual?

Could someone please tell me... What would I have to do to convert my truck from a 700R4 Tranny to a Borg Warner 5 Speed?

What year and engine 2 or 4 W?
To work a manual transmission you need a clutch pressure plat and flywheel and manual bell housing and clutch pedal and linkage and gear shift.

Your best and cheapest and easy way is to go down to your car dealer and trade truck for a std transmission.

There is a bit more information we need to make a proper assessment. But I will try to hit every point.

I'm not going to jerk you around, this will NOT be an easy task or a short one, but, if you love working on your truck, you'll love it.

Get your tranny, clutch kit to fit the tranny, flywheel since your flex plate right now won't hold your clutch, at least it shouldn't. You'll also need your pedal (mounting hardware for the pedal, linkage, (cable for mechanical (cheaper) or hydrallic lines (more reliable)). Also, get yourself a floor shifter. If you have a column shifter for the auto tranny, you will have 1 extra step. DON'T FORGET YOUR FLUIDS!

First off, (I'm going to use my truck first as an example) if you have a carbed engine (NO COMPUTER) than this will be the easiest and less costly. Firs, drop your old tranny. Then make sure your flex plate will take the clutch, change if needed now. Mock up the tranny to the engine but don't slam it in yet. If you have the column shifter, cut a hole in your floor board for the shifter. Hole cut, drop the tranny, slam your clutch in and put your tranny into place. Cut a slot in your floor for your clutch pedal and put your clutch pedal in and mock up your linkage for clearance. everything lined up, put your linkage in and test drive. (total time= about 2 - 2 1/2 days of work)

Ok now the worst case. you have a computer (easy way to know, if your EFI) You will still do everything I mentioned up there, but you will have to make sure that your computer doesn't control your tranny. If it does will will need to pick up a new computer that just controls your engine since you will be the computer for the tranny. Then, you have to re-program the computer to the engine since the auto is gone. That usually just takes a test drive. (total time= 2-3 days of work.)

If you are going to go ahead with this, take your time, do it right and it will pay off for you. I going to be converting my Camaro to 5 spd from auto.
