coolant conversion

My camaro has dex-cool in it right now. I blew the upper radiator hose this morning and my buddy told me it would be a good time to change from dex-cool to the green stuff. He said that it is cheaper and just as good as dex-cool. How do I convert to the green stuff? I need to get hte car on the road by tommorrow(thurs) night. Thanks.

you will have to flush dex cool completely out of system or you may run into problems as the two do not mix. Why not just put the dex cool back in and save the hassle,it`s not like you gonna put 5 or 9 gallons back into engine.......lol

Use Dexcool. If you change it regularly 3yrs/30,000mls, like the green, it should not be a problem. It is a problem when left in forever. The green would be too.

my only reason for doing tis would be the cost of the coolant. If there is not a large savings, i am not going to bother.

I looked online real quick and it is almost the same price, i am going to use the dex-cool.

All I had available to me to get it running, short term, was the green stuff. I put a gallon in but due to the severity of the hose failure none of it go into the engine. I have some still in the coolant reservoir, i can see it through the fill neck. how do I flush the system so I can put the dex-cool back in?

FYI: For those trying to decide on switching from DexCool...not a good idea. Here is an article concerning this and how certain engine parts were made for use with DexCool, and should not be used with other non-OAT type coolants. http://free-auto-repair-advice.blogs...label/Dex-Cool
I have used DexCool for over 10 years in my vehicles in which it was installed from the factory and have not had any issues. Like previously stated, if it is maintained properly,(i.e. changed every 2 to 3 years, etc,) it shouldn't give you any issues.
