03 Windstar...PO303 & PO102

Any thoughts?
2003 Windstar 3.8L, 303 and 102 codes. Runs rough, missing and popping/backfife on acceleration , vibration / sputtering when downshifting. not bad now on idle but missing and hesitation when appling the gas.
Replaced the plugs, spark present on all cylinders. Cleaned the throttle body. Just finished cleaning the egr ports (didnt help at all).
303 is a cylinder misfire and 102 is a mass low input.
How likely is it that the coil may be the cause of these problems and codes? Or could something else be the culipit?
Thanks in advance

Re: 03 Windstar...PO303 & PO102

For the P0303, it could be the coil pack.
One other thing that is possible is a dirty fuel injector.
I have run across this problem several times on my '96 (200K + miles) and have found that Berryman's B-12 Chemtool in the metal can works.
This is after trying MANY other cleaners.
It may take 3 tanks of gasoline, each tank treated with a can of Berryman's.

IF the MAF code persists, I would try cleaning the MAF.
Use NON-Residue ELECTRONIC cleaner in the spray form.
I show this in my pictures (link in my signature takes you to them).
Basically, you remove the MAF unit from the vehicle.....Hold the unit so that you are looking DOWN through the screen at the plastic cross member.
On one end of that cross member is a hole......hold the unit so that you are looking down into it......and the end with the hole is slightly higher than the other end of the cross member.
Spray the cleaner down through the screen.....INTO the hole in the cross member.....letting the fluid run out the hole that is at the other end of the cross member.....facing away from you.
This will flush any dirt/oil/etc from the sensors that are in there.
Inspect the wire harness for the MAF....looking for any broken or disconnected wires, etc.

Worth a try to clean the MAF before the expense of buying a new one.
