Alero issues *sigh* lots of em HELP
we've had this alero for going on 7 years. its 2001 Olds Alero 2.4L 4cyl with auto transmission. We currently have the SVS (service vehicle soon) light on, the ABS light, and Trac Off lights are all on. These all came on at the same time. We have high idle at start up, about 1600 rpm and it goes high like that at every start up until car is at operating temp. When warmed up fully it idles like crap around 500-600 rpms. Then when driven down the highway for around 20 minutes or so the car will not kickdown out of overdrive. Then when stopping for a stop sign it will idle horrible and when proceeding will make the shift from 1st to 2nd so hard it almost rattles your teeth. Then if you shut the car off and restart it will go back to well.... somewhat normal. also when it is shifting hard it will only shift after 3250 rpms, no sooner. I've already replaced the Intake temp sensor and the pigtail, the only thing I noticed different is that it doesnt DIE at stop signs now haha.
Someone please help me

Re: Alero issues *sigh* lots of em HELP
Welcome to AF !
You'll need to get it scanned with an ABS capable scan tool for the ABS. As fars as the idle check for vacum leaks. You might also clean & test the idle air control IAC on the side of the throtle body. Here is a link that'll help with this. Idle Air Control(IAC) Testing Replacing for 99+ Hope that helps!

Re: Alero issues *sigh* lots of em HELP
UPDATE::: The SES light came on finally and is staying on constantly. Car runs like crap almost all the time and trans. is shifting really hard now even while putting into gear from park. Cruise quits working when trans. is being retarded. Currently saving money to take it to the dealer :sigh:
Now my 03 Dodge Durango Check engine light is on too. Now if I could just get the DMV to send out the title to my 94 Z24 cavalier so I can license it then atleast I'll have 1 car that runs decent. oops TCC problems with that

Re: Alero issues *sigh* lots of em HELP
Yayyyy ok I got this car to run half way decent. Got SVS light off. Was LF speed sensor. Hard shifting and driveability problem was sourced to a bad TP sensor. Now with all lights off it runs great but I cant seem to get the idle down no matter how much I mess with the Idle Control motor. Is there any special way to set this to a certain setting during install? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Alero issues *sigh* lots of em HELP
Check your vacum lines thuroughly!
And make sure the IAC port and TB are clean of all carbon. I'd also check the IAT wires and MAF sensor wires. The MAF sensor wires are a little short and can make intermitant signals causing simular isssues. Hope that helps!
