97 Blazer shifting

I have a 97 Blazer auto transmission, with the 4.3. I am trying to get an idea of the problem before I send it to the shop. When driving after it has been sitting, the transmssion shifts thru all the gears fine. After driving a couple miles, I lose 1st gear and overdrive. 2nd and 3rd work fine. It takes off in 2nd gear and then 3rd thats it. It can sit a couple hours and shift fine for a couple miles, then back to just 2nd and 3rd. I would'nt think that this is transmission failure, maybe something electrical? Any input would be great! Almost forgot, trans was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago.

Re: 97 Blazer shifting

If it is going to the shop let them figure it out.
That is what you will be paying them for.
Needs put on a transmission/engine capable scanner andf check things out.
If any codes transmission or engine post back code

Re: 97 Blazer shifting

Just wanting to know if anybody has ran across this problem before. If it is something simple, maybe I can avoid shop costs. I am sure I am not the first person to encounter this problem. Even if I do take it to the shop, I would like to get a rough idea to what the problem is.

Re: 97 Blazer shifting

You will have to get it on a transmission/engine capable scanner to see what is going on.
Check for codes and shift adpative data and slippage and check shift solenoids.

Re: 97 Blazer shifting

Took to Oreilley Auto and ran the codes. Came back as Transmssion shift solenoid malfunction. Hopefully this solves the problem.

Re: 97 Blazer shifting

That does not say much.
You need to get it on a transmission capable scanner and find out which one a why.
And do not forget the 97 is a bad year for ign switches that can cause that problem.
Take it back and let the shop check it out.
