Front brake pads

2002 malibu, I am installing front brake pads on my car and found the inside pad to be much more worn than the outside pad on both wheels. Is this normal or do I need to look for more trouble?

That means your caliper piston is not retracting, hence when you stop putting pressure on the brake pedal, the piston is not relieving pressure from the inside brake pad making it drag on the disk and causing it to wear at a faster rate than the outer brake pad.

They sell caliper piston kits to do an overhaul on your existing calipers, but for the price I think you're better replacing the whole caliper assembly with new ones.

I agree with you, but you may not have to do a complete dissasembly. It doesn't have to be the piston not retracting, i have found that the slide pins need to be lube up. pull them out before you do your overhaul and inspect them, if the are rusty and dry. lube and try them.

or it could mean that the guide pins are not properly cleaned and lubed with HIGH-TEMP grease....

i agree on the caliper not sliding or not sucking pistion back in. or it could be pins like he said not letting it slide right and make sure where caliper slides make sure it's not rusty if so clean those off.

I've cleaned and thoroughly lube the pins on my car, and the inside pad still wears more than the outer. You gotta be careful. You can't see the inside pad wearing, so it might wear down to nothing and chew up the rotor.

I've also found that the hose can degrade internally and prevent the brake fluid from returning to the system after releasing the pedal. If you replace the caliper, spend the extra 5 mins. and a few bucks and replace the hose as well.
