2002 Accord 2dr Lx 4cly Mt Rattling Type Sound When Accelerating.
I Am Getting A Rattling Type Buzzing Sound When Accelerating Or Decelerating That Sounds Like Exhaust Noise But Is Not. Noise Only Happens When In Gear On Accel Or Decel. Vehicle Runs And Idles Perfect. It Does Not Matter What Gear It Is In. When You Rev Motor When Not It Gear No Noise Is Present. I Had Dc Headers On The Vehicle That Were Cracked So I Put To Stock Manifold Back On With All New Gaskets And Also A New Cat And It Seem To Have Gotten Worse Over Time. I Really Don't Think It Is Exhaust Related. I Really Need To Get Chassis Ears On This Because I Can Only Duplicate This When Driving. I Hope It Is Not A Bearing In The Trans! Yikes!

Re: 2002 Accord 2dr Lx 4cly Mt Rattling Type Sound When Accelerating.
Hondas have so much damn exhaust shielding I always look there first. They sometimes won't buzz unless the motor is under load, and always do it in the same rpm range regardless of road speed.
Most MT bearing noises I've hear come from the output side and the sound correlates to road speed, not engine speed. A galled input bearing will howl and usually be more harsh on one or the other accel or decel but not the same on both. If I'm understanding you right, it sounds like a resonance at a certain rpm, which is usually a shield. I put hose clamps around smaller ones to tighten them up, larger ones you can hit them with a hammer near the weld/rivet seams hard enough to dent it slightly and the noise will change or go away...or get worse...at any rate you know what you got then...they have real big hose clamps at parts stores and even if you can't get one big enough you can use more than one...open them up and put the end of one into the screw of the next one, and make a chain of them...or just have an exhaust shop run a new weld on it..

REPLACED TRANSMISSIONS WITH SALVAGE YARD TRANSMISSION AND REPLACE THE CLUTCH WHILE I WAS AT IT. THE NOISE IS NOW GONE. ABOUT $800.00 IN PARTS AND A SATURDAY MY VEHICLE IS RUNNING TOP.

What was the differential bad in the old one, making the noise?

Have you ran over something hard recently? I'm having crazy rattling noises coming from under the car too. It turned out to be damaged catalytic converter. The ceramic grids inside the cat shattered and trapped inside the cat housing; therefore, when you accel, the exhaust gas rushes through the cat and the lose pieces bounce around in the cat causing disturbing loud sound.

Opps missed the reply, really replacing transmission fixes the problem? That is soo odd. Anyways I'm glad it's fixed.
