The project begins....

Well I started pulling the engine this weekend. I've just got to finish disconnecting the wire harness and transmission and I think I've got it. My buddy will be getting me an engine lift for next weekend. Thats when I hope to have the whole thing done by!

Re: The project begins....

I don't think he is doing a swap. With the 300ZX, Nissan took an engine bay that would work with say, a small four cylinder motor, and then shoved the biggest physical engine they could in there. To replace the turbos, you'd have to pull it.

^^^ DING DING DING! We have a winner!

I have to replace the turbos. The ones in it are warn out, and the driver side turbo has blown a seal so my exhaust is now an oil line! You thought sea foam was bad...

I actually found a guy who did an LS1 engine swap. He was featured in SportCompact. He's got more room in the engine bay then I do!

Re: The project begins....

makes sense. I did see the thread with the new (to you) turbos and was curious where they went. I know nothing of Nissan, hence my ignorance.

That does seem pretty stupid that an LS1 fits in the bay better than the stock motor... nissan engineering at its best.

Re: The project begins....

Got a guide from a Z forum. Very detailed on what to disconnect. Having a great time right now with it. More pictures to come I'm sure!

Re: The project begins....

Get this! When I was working on the car yesterday I was unbolting the AC compressor and found the OEM Radiator cap! Man I was excited. Even though the radiator wasn't in the car, I replaced the broke cap and put the OEM one on. Technically now I'm back to stock...

Re: The project begins....

Epic win... Do you have a thread for loosers like me to follow over in the project car section?

Re: The project begins....

Yeah, you should start one in the project car forums.

Anyhow, found the OEM rad cap huh? I wish I could have found mine because Japanese lettering adds a minimum of 5 hp per character. Not only that, it's a sleeper add on since people can't see. I know when I see a car with Japanese lettering I don't even get near it cause' that's a major ass beating waiting to happen.

Just ask anyone who has messed with a Hayabusa.

Re: The project begins....

Then you can laugh at them as they pull themselves from the Busa that is now wrapped around a tree.
