Re: 1998 jeep cherokee sport problem
Take it to the parts store and have the codes read. It should tell you where to start. Normally they will do it for free.

Re: 1998 jeep cherokee sport problem
On the 4.0's that I have owned, I've turned the key "on" for 2-3 seconds before turning it to start, waiting for the fuel pump to stop running. You might try this technique. If it doesn't work, then look for other issues.

Re: 1998 jeep cherokee sport problem
Try this, first start of the day, turn the key on till you hear the fuel pump stop running, turn off, wait a second or two and turn it on again, letting the fuel pump run, once it stops this time, crank the engine. If it starts up, you could be looking at a weak fuel pump or restricted line or filter. You said you have the fuel system checked? How?
