Cool 1998 jeep cherokee sport problem

hello,i have a 1998 jeep cherokee with a 4.0L and 6 cylinder in line.a year ago it started to not run when the key was turn on for first time (the engine only cranked),it will run when the key was turn on for the second time, after checking the battery, starter, fuel injection system, fuel pump, fuel filter ,spark plug, distributor ,keys switch, all this parts are good,i was told that the problem was the crankshaft position sensor,i continued to drive the car with the problem for a while until the engine stop while i as driving.(the engine did crank but not run),so replaced the crankshaft sensor and the engine run well now, however most time i still need to turn the key on 2 time for the motor to run.i do noticed that the check gauges light comes on for 2 seconds after the motor runs...any help please..thanks

Take it to the parts store and have the codes read. It should tell you where to start. Normally they will do it for free.

On the 4.0's that I have owned, I've turned the key "on" for 2-3 seconds before turning it to start, waiting for the fuel pump to stop running. You might try this technique. If it doesn't work, then look for other issues.

Try this, first start of the day, turn the key on till you hear the fuel pump stop running, turn off, wait a second or two and turn it on again, letting the fuel pump run, once it stops this time, crank the engine. If it starts up, you could be looking at a weak fuel pump or restricted line or filter. You said you have the fuel system checked? How?
