2005 Chevrolet Silverado Tire Size

I own a 2005 Silverado 2WD and the tires that are on it are 245/70/17. I would like the truck to have a little higher stance. I do not want to "jack up" the vehicle. I am wanting to know if I can fit a 265/70/17 under it as it sits or am I going to have to purchase a leveling kit for this tire size to fit. Any help is appreciated.

Re: 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Tire Size

Best not to go over one size bigger.
To much bigger and they may rub and the speedometer will have to be reset.
Ask the tire shop about bigger tiress.

Re: 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Tire Size

talk to your local tire guy i myself was a tire guy for many years and there is a formula called plus 0 meaning it does not effect of all diameter like add 10 to first number 245 to 255 subtract 10 from the second number 70 to 60 and leave the rim size alone so you would be looking at p255/60 r17 the trouble with 17" tire is its kinda limited with the sizes available so you can fudge a number alittle one way or another to getrwhat after but remember changing the over all diameter will through off the speedo a little like 2 mph per inch you can have the dealer reprogam your computer to correct the problem. hope this helps

Re: 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Tire Size

To answer the OP's question..
Tire sizes are in a formula like this:
245/70 r17 means the tire is 245mm wide; and it's height is 70% of it's width
so for this one your tire is 171.5mm high.
Going to a 265/70 will make the height 185.5

This means you will be 20mm wider and 14mm higher

Hope it helps.
