2000 Mustang Engine Quits While Driving
My 2000 Mustang normally runs great. Recently the right turn indicater light will glow (not blink) (outside blinkers do not turn on) and within a few seconds the engine will die. Usually happens at speed. Has happened in the morning after only a few miles and at night after driving most of the day. Does not matter if the outside temp is hot or cool.
When it starts the engine sputters. Feels like it is starving for air or fuel. It dies. Will restart but dies again when put in gear. Usually after 3 or 4 restarts it will work fine for a week or so. I've taken it to 2 independent mechanics and the Ford dealer. No diagnosis from any of them. Computer does not throw a code. Fuel pressure is fine and they say all of the wiring looks good. Friends have said the computer is probably the culprit. Any thoughts from anyone. Thanks for any input. |

Re: 2000 Mustang Engine Quits While Driving
Ask your mechanic to work on the blinker problem it appears to be tied in to the engine stalling. Do you have low voltage when this happens dim lights or other indications you have a problem. You may have a problem in the switch a lot of circuits go through this area. I think its more of a power problem not a computer problem.

Thanks. The second mechanic did that and found no problem with low voltage or shorts. Ford said they looked at it as well and didn't see anything.

Quote:
Mileage on vehicle? Have you changed out the turn singal bulbs? It could be a bad signal/wiper switch. Engine sputter & starving for air or fuel can be caused by many things, Idle Air Control Valve (IAC), Throttle Position Sensor, Air Charge Temperature Sensor, Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF), PCV Valve, Fuel Filter, including a bad coumputer (ECU). |

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions. The problem ended up being a loose ground wire even though several technicians assured me they had checked for this.

Re: 2000 Mustang Engine Quits While Driving
Sorry to revive an old thread. The reason why your car is cutting out is because it's losing fuel pressure. I'm glad to hear that you were able to fix it by finding a loose ground. Where, exactly, was that loose ground. I'm having the same exact problem as you had, and I've checked all the grounds that are in plain sight. Including the one near the fuel pump shut off switch in the trunk. Are there any other hidden grounds?
