Starting Issues

Well i have the dreded no starting issues with my alero. It is a 2001 with the 2.4. The car will crank over fine but just wont start. The security light is on STEADY not flashing. You can sit in the car as long as you want with the key on and nothing changes the light still remains steadily lit. I left it with the key on for about a good 35min and nothing. All the other systems seem to be working just fine, like the locks and radio and all the other indicator lights come on with the bulb check and go out except the security light. I tried disconecting the battery for 2 hrs and that did nothing. I read on here somewhere about wiring in a resistor and relearning that, tried it and nothing. All the conections on the bcm seem to be good and clean as well. I am really getting frustrated with this car if any body can help I would be so greatful. Oh you you can hear the fuel pump kick on when the key is turned on, and all the fuses are good too. Thanks in advance.

Re: Starting Issues

You realy need to get and use a scan tool that will communicate with the BCM. This way you can check the security system and get better idea were your falt is. With out this information it is hard to tell were it will lead you and you could be chasing your tail in circles. good Luck!

Cool Re: Starting Issues

does it start at all ?
i had an issue with my 2001 and sometimes it would then cut off and leave me stranded. then sometimes it would act as if it would start but wouldn't crank over.
i done alot of work to mine, then i found out it was my ignition switch. they have it with security and if you try to make another key, then it will mess it up.
good luck hope this helps.

Re: Starting Issues

No the car will not start. It turns over fine just doesn't start. The ignition switch thats in it is only about a year old. At least it is at home and not somewhere else.

Re: Starting Issues

Do you have the recommended fuel pressure? Do you have Spark at the coil or plugs ? Have you checked for trouble codes? There a lot of things that will not let on start. These are the most common. Try the fuel pressure first you can go to AutoZone and get Gauge to use. They will charge you for the gauge and when you return it they will give you your money back. This is if you don't have one. Good luck!!!
