Sludge
Whats the best way to remove sludge from engine,I got like about a half inch of the crap under my valve covers.How bad does this affect performance ?My mama said stay away from used cars.

HELLO,best to remove buy hand while covers are off.not sure what its called but you can buy a cleaner addative to flush.GOOD LUCK

I would just carefully remove what you can by hand! And just use good quality detergent oil . If you flush it you will be risking leakes and possibly clogging the oil pick up screen.

good point angus!!if its not effecting anything now maybe a few oil changes would be good info i was thinking it has already caused problems.

I'd check the PCV valve to make sure it's working. Sludge inside the cover usually means sludge in the PCV.
