I just bought a 2000 Infiniti I30 with 77,000 miles. got it from a local large dealership. they said it was in excellent shape, which it sure looked to be. since it was my second car I've not put but 200 miles on it since. but I continue to have this "grinding noise" in the front end after it warms up. sounds like brake shoes rubbing. I jacked up the front and checked pads and rotors and could not find anything, ran it and heard nothing, pushed and pulled on tiires to check bearings but nothing. could not locate anything rubbing under the wheel well. the tires have some tred left but seem to be evenly worn. the pads look to be about 65 to 70% good. rotors look smooth. cv joints look clean and get no clicking. but after a few miles you start to hear the grinding and rubbing noise. when you come to a stop you hear it as the brakes are applied and there is a vibration in the streeing wheel too. It all looks like - maybe rotors warped? pads? It's beyond me. I just don't want to go too far away from home without knowing that this is not something serious.
any suggestions? eagletnet

finally pulled both rotors - they were both warped bad. the pads looked liked like they were "fried", if you can say that, they were like bricks, so I replace both rotors, pads and hardware. I even replaced the fluid just to be sure.
there is no sound now! makes me wonder what could have happened to cause this much damage to those brakes? at lease it makes me fill better, but a little poorer! ha ha thanks for the input eagletnet

Re: 2000 Infiniti I30 front end noise
just an update,
running great, little tire noise, but expected. they still have lots of miles and since it's a second car not going to worry. it does drives great. it's got more "do-dads" than I'm use to but i can live with it. I guess for what I paid for it wasn't so bad after all.!? the engine seems to have a lot of get up and go, which isn't all bad. not too bad on gas miles. around 20mpg. eagletnet
