2000 Chevy Venture Failed Inspection

Hello everyone,

I went to go get an inspection today, and my 2000 Chevy Venture failed for the following reasons.

OBDII Codes

p0442 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (small leak)
p0742 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stuck On
p0757 Shift Sloenoid "B" Stuck On

Can anyone please explain the above errors, or point me in the right direction(Google hasn't been my friend lately)?
Is there anything that I can do to reset/fix the issues myself?

It is very possible that you simply have a bad or loosely installed gas cap (that is what could be the P0442). I have seen several of these codes and most were cleared by making sure the gas tank spout is clean and not rusty where the cap seats and making sure the gas cap is on tightly. The only other P0442 code I have diagnosed was caused by a filler neck that was beginning to rust through in spots. A close inspection of the fuel tank and EVAP lines is in order. As for the other 2 codes, how long has it been since a fluid and filter change on the transmission?

If it did fail on the GAS Cap its probably their falt ?
I know they open the Cap to see tampering and if they didn't put it on correctly would that give out the code ?

Ididnt[BreAK]it: that code won't set that fast. Your fuel tank has to be somewhere between 1/2-3/4 full and you have to be driving pretty steady (like on the highway). The code will not set right away. You can get away with that code if you keep your tank full and can get the monitors to reset themselves before getting too much below a full tank and get the inspection done then, you can save yourself a lot of headache.

It's been about 2 months since the fluid, and filter got changed.

I asked the garage to reset the obd, and I drove the van around for a while, and then two of the three disappeared. The one that is left over is...

P0742 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stuck On is still there.

Any suggestions on the one that's left?

The pcm sees inputs that cause it to set this code, I would replace the tcc solenoid, you could have a full trans scan which would look at the feed back info from the trans solenoids to confirm the cause.

In a word--no. You have to drop the engine/tranny out the bottom of the van, remove the axle on the driver's side, then open up the side of the tranny to gain access. These trannys are known for this problem, do a search on 'hard shifting & whining on 4t65e' for the full story.

The p442 code can also set when the connector that plugs in the evap canister gets corroded and sets the code every time it gets wet.
This is also talked about quite a bit in the forums.

Are there any good websites, or manuals/books that would take me through the process? Step by step, and list the required tools to be used.

In the meantime, I'll start my search for the full story.

In a word, no, there are no step-by-step instructions listing every tool to use. It is more-or-less a job to be done by someone with the proper tools and equipment as you will need to at least partially drop the front subframe to get at the side of the transmission. You may want to start shopping around for a willing transmission shop...
