99 Dome light keeps coming on at night ?

The dome light/ foot lights on my 99 grand marquis keep coming on when I park the vehicle at night. It doesn't seem to happen during the day. The light comes on for about 20 seconds, then fades out. A few seconds later it does the same. When I go out to the car about an hour later it has stopped ?I took it to a shop and they fixed some door switches but it is happening again. Any ideas on what might be causing this ?

If the door switches are OK, the problem is more than likely the lighting control mosule.

thanks for the information. When I bought the car I also got a two year warranty with it. I took it back yesterday and they are going to look at it again this morning. When I speak to them i'll mention the lighting control module.

BOTH the '99 Grand Marquis AND the '96 Lincoln Town Car that I own, had problems w/ the front driver's side door(s)failing to latch properly, when closed; which caused the interior lights to behave strangely. Each case turned out to be an issue of improper door-alignment.

There would, more than likely, be at least one area of unusual wear to the rubber gasket / moulding around the door, and/or (more obviously) chipped paint and abrasions/dents-- where the top-corner of the front driver's door has been colliding w/ the top-corner of the driver''s side passenger door.

Returned the car to CARMAX for the third time. The interior lights are still coming on. They replaced the switch on the dash and have checked the doors but it is still happening. It only seems to happen when it's dark ? Any more suggestions ?

Still sounds like the lighting control module. It is located under the dash. They may not want to say that is the problem because of the cost of the part.

Had the same problem on my wifes 00 GM. I too thought it was the lamp control module. Its not. Its actually the Keyless Entry Pad/Switch on the out side of the drivers door.

Had same problem with my 99 grand marquis...it was the keyless entry pad and i replaced the computer module in the driver door...cost me about 75 bucks or so...i also bought a new keyless pad since mine had burned out one of the lights and didnt work...that is your problem im sure!!

My 2000 does it when it rains. It is definitely a short in the keyless entry keypad. I can just run my fingers across the entire keypad once or twice and it usually stops.
