Brake Drum

Hi,

My rear brake drums look really bad and they are all rusted up. I want to replace ONLY the brake drum and not anything inside because all that functions well. Can I replace only the drum without touching anything else?
Also If I am correct, all I have to do is pop the drum off and replace with the new.
The new drums are 225mm and are suppose to be an oem replacement.

Thanks again
97 Cavalier LS

Re: Brake Drum

For the extra cash I would just do a complete brake job if you`re going to do your drums. parts are cheap so might as well be done with it. Chances are when you pull the drums you will disrupt something as there will be a wear lip all around the outer edge of drum and you`ll have to give it a good tug to get them off. not to mention the fact that the old shoes will not mate up as well with new drums.

Re: Brake Drum

Okay I will do that. But what size can I use?? My drums say 201.4mm can I even use the 225mm? And If so what size shoes would I need or are they all the same?
I just want to make sure everything is matched up.

225mm= what size shoes?
200mm= what size shoes?

Re: Brake Drum

DUDE!....

I have brand new shoes and drums painted with black caliper paint sitting in my garage. I have all the hardware as well just sitting in a plastic baggie from when I did my rear disc conversion. There is maybe 300 miles on the shoes and drums.

If you want em i'll let em go real cheap. $40 plus shipping. They are Bendix drums which came as OE and shoes are Bendix as well. I'll also send you ALL the hardware...The drums alone were $50 a pop.

they only have surface rust from sitting for about a year now in that same spot. Just needs to be hit with some sand paper, hell i'll even do that for you. I just need them gone.

Re: Brake Drum

Lemme throw everything on my scale tonight, I only said $40 because the drums weight like 5-10 lbs each. Shipping is going to be kind of high I do believe shipping a box that weights probably around 20lbs. Since they are useless to me now since my sunfire can't use em either, I'd rather help someone else out who needs brakes. I'll also get some more pictures of everything.

Jake - I did offer them to Christina first bud, so while more money is tempting, I did say $40 to her plus ship. If she doesn't like the shipping quote and not want them, you'll be next.

Re: Brake Drum

They came off my 2.2L 99 2200. They are the smaller diameter drums of the 2 which came on the 2.2L cars. For some reason the Z24's had slightly larger drums, but still ran the same shoes.

I am supplying you with all the lever actuators, springs, hold down pins, drums, shoes, the whole 9 yards, everything I removed minus the backing plate. The paint is Caliper paint and only is chipped where my wheels touched them right near the studs. ( happens on all drums when painted) They will bolt right up tho.

I will sand them with some paper for ya, its only surface rust and it "might" re-appear shipping them back to you since its going to be bare metal again. Humid summers like to rust things again. I cannot put any protection on the metal because the pads won't bite if they get oil or grease on them.

Would you do Money order? I have a Group purchase going on www.j-body.org through my paypal. I need a statement from paypal with all the buyers from the month of august for tax purposes at the shop. I'd rather not have to explain to the IRS if we ever got investigated what this random $60 was coming in from.

I will PM you my personal address.
