1997 ford 150 4x4 control module

Hi I have a 1997 ford f150 4x4 (5.4l, automatic)
It does not want to shift into or out of four wheel drive. There is no response at all when i turn the switch. The indicator lights both work on startup.
I took the shift motor off the transfer case, it did not want to work at all either. I got it all cleaned up and it worked out of the vehicle. When I put it back in it still does not shift. Can someone tell me whether it could be the dash switch, relays or the so called general control module. if so can someone also tell me where this control module is and what it looks like? Thanks, Dave.

Can you take the switch out and test it? Maybe just a fuse?

My 95 is the first electronic shift 4x4 I've ever had. Not very familiar with it. Luckily it works very good. I was kinda weary of it at first.
