Broke down no start

Coming home late yesterday, driving just fine...then all of sudden no power, pulled over to the side of the road. Opened the hood and noticed a very slight burned rubber smell. Could not restart, got towed home.

Today, took distributor cap off and cranked to see the rotor turning therefore the timing belt is still on.

Checked the trouble codes and got a 32 which is MAP sensor. Disconnected the MAP sensor to see if the car will start, still no start. I know fuel is getting to the engine, I can hear the fuel pump and the smell of gas.
Anything else to check?

Is there a spark? Check your coil. I think the car should start with the map unplugged. Look for melted wires etc. I have one sitting in my yard now that the wires shorted and melted.

Thanks for the replies...This is what happened...The lower crankshaft pulley bolt got loose and broke thus making the timing belt move forward towards the timing belt cover. From the friction the timing belt cut through the plastic timing belt cover. See Picture.

Towed the car to a shop to have the broken pulley bolt extracted. They put on a new pulley bolt, timing belt cover and crank gear since it was damaged plus a new timing belt and keyway.

The cost of the parts was reasonable...the labor...that's what skilled people get paid to do.

Wow... I've not seen one get eaten up like that. I have a couple where the outer belts have rubbed it.
