88-89 corolla

88-89 COROLLA NEEDS HELP
my 88-89 1.6l 4af carb engine toyota corolla has been stallin lately on me while driving. sometimes at idle in nuetral when i rev it up, it backs out at 5-6k rpms and struggles to continue as though it is loosing gas this is the same thing that happens while driving if i accelerate at those rpms or higher. now i have change all the car killers in it i.e distributor (complete) , the starter motor, alternator, fuel pump, and both fuel and air filters and my carburetor has been overhauled with all new jets . can someone please help me on this one i am out of ideas

Re: 88-89 corolla

have you had someone start it with breather off and made sure it is getting enough spray to down in the carb?

yep! i have done that but strangely this is the same problem i had before i changed my carb jets, fuel filter and pump and air filter what i noticed is if when i accelerate and it bogs and i come off the gas and leave for a few minutes considering it doesnt stall , it catches itself and i can drive but not accelerate rapidly or else the same thing will happen, but it doesnt just die it backs off like its loosing gas and then it will stall. could my diaphram or float have anything to do with this

Re: 88-89 corolla

The jets aren't the only thing that needs changing in the carb.
The float (as you mentioned), the needle and seat, power piston, accelerator pump, etc.
You also need to see if the choke is opening all the way.
A proper rebuild kit for the carb will come with all these parts (maybe not the float) and give you instructions for the proper adjustments needed.
Rebuilding a carb is quite an undertaking so I hope your up to it.
Take it to a pro if your not.

Good luck.
