Electrical Problem to Fuel Pump PAU 97

I have had an intermittent problem with my Fuel Pump just shutting off. So finally I replaced the fuel pump. The problem persisted. The car would just randomly shut off. Then it finally shut off and stopped working completely. So I pulled the Fuel pump out and wired it directly to a battery and it works fine. So I put it back in and discovered that there is no power coming back to the pump. I checked all of the fuses and swaped the relay with the one from the Air Conditioner (Same Numbers) and I still have no power. If anyone has any advise for me that would be great.

Are you sure you replaced the proper relay?It is located under the dash on the passenger side behind the glove box.Also check the ground bus that is located under the carpet on the drivers side close to the front seat.They have been known to get corroded from road salt if you live where they use it on the roads or have had the carpet under water for any extended time.

Being that this is an Ultra... 3800 Supercharged, you will have a Fuel Pump Module that controls the pump.. I believe that its location may be in the trunk attached to the rear of the seat back someplace.. I am not sure of its exact location... But you may want to make sure its getting power and if it is check to see if power is going out from the module to the pump

In addition to the fine advice given above, check the FP wiring going from the control module to the top of the fuel tank & pump for abrasion or corrosion. It is a 4-wire connector, with one purple and one grey wire. (See schematic below) You will find this connector near the right rear tire, above the upper a-arm and close to the tank. You will see some other wires in this area, however, the light grey & purple wires are the ones going to the fuel pump. These fuel pump wires have been known to rub against moving suspension parts and wear through the insulation. Once the insulation is broken, corrosion quickly follows.

Had a similar problem on my 97 PA. Replaced the fuel pump, was not the problem. Found there is a connector in the electrical cable going to the fuel tank that was faulty. Cut it out and soldered the wires together then shrink tubing and covered all with tape. No more problem. the connector is located under the driver side rear door about 18in in from the rocker panel. After removing it I took the plug apart an could find nothing wrong but eliminating it fixed the problem. Good luck
