Cartoonerz : Tooning O.C.C Junior dream Bike...the process

Hello again. So after some deeper studies and how to's on photoshop, I feel more confident to devote myself entirely on photoshop and finally let go of Flash to draw my toons. I found out that photoshop gives you more flexibility with colors option and "management". I've put , once again, the impala on hold for specific reason, I'm now working on the OCC junior dream bike : http://www.orangecountychoppers.com/occ/onairtheme.html . I will use the knowledge i acquired, and use it from now on...hope this will be a new step for Cartoonerz, and not a down step...

I will post my Updates on my website if you guys don't mind, It's quicker for me and I'll show you the step by step that I will be using. Feel free to leave me comment on this forum, as visit every now and then.

how bout a link to the tutes you found.

I wouldn't abandon all vector applications in total...you'll find the vector appliacations will give you a cleaner line to render to, which may be desired depending on what your drawing is for.

I went throught alot of tutorials, but 2 really explained the line art and coloring in a simple way, Which I found great.
For the line art I found this one :

It helped me alot and gave me new ideas also, I find that Flash was more limited and was pissing me off in the past couple of days, haha.
I'll see how it goes and all with the bike, but I'm sure it will turn out pretty good.

ok, so I have a question... I hope theres an answer to this.. Cause the coloring process is way to long !!
If you look at the picture, you see theres white "space" between the color and line art,where theres the 2 circles for example, I have to take a brush and color all around the lineart so its nice and tidy..(or use the magicstick and inverse it so i can do it quicker) Is there another method I can take so the colors are not doing this, or is it just part of this process ?
It's a bit hard to explain..haha

I make sure my magic wand or selection tool has anti-alias turned off. That'll get you closer to the edge.

The other thing I do is go to select-expand by 1 pixel. That will take your selection into your black line.

Since your blackline is above your color it will act as a trap.

I also went a step further and recorded an action of my 1 pixel selection and assigned it to my F3 key. This way after I select and area I just hit F3 and viola.

Most of the base color was added. Need to add shadowing and highlights.

another thing that helps is to make your selections from paths created with the pen tool or the polygon lasso tool.

Once again anti-alias off.

You can even save paths if you like.

Another great secret when doing you initial lineart is CTRL+T that makes any selection modifiable with the freeform transform tool...this is invaluable for rims and stuff like that. You can transform your elliptical selection then stroke it then transform the same selection again...basically you can render all your ellipses on the same angle one right after the other without having to redraw each time. Note. I do the outer wheel and inner wheel on separate layers then cut away what doesn't need to be there then merge.

Your piece looks great. You have turned another corner. Very impressive.
