Need help on 1972 Mercury Montego

I have a '72 montego mx brougham. This car has been sitting in my parents garage for over 20 years. I just recently got it started after putting in a new fuel pump, solenoid, plugs, and points. The car runs like shit and wont go over 25 mph. My question is what is the gap setting for the points? Also, the guy at Murray's told me that the gap for the plugs is 35, is this right as well?

What engine does it have in it. I think you have varnish in the carb. It probably needs cleaned out. I will look for the other data as I have a motor manual in the garage for this vehicle,

plug gap .034 ARF-42
point gap .017 standard trans .020
dwell 26-30
The carburator is just like your lawn mower if it sits a long time with gas in it they get gumed up.
I had to clean the carburator on my small riding mower I use to trim with.
The age of this car you will probably need a kit as they will tear getting apart.
The cleaner isn't as good as it used to be. If your wife has an old kettle she doesn't use any more you can boil the metal parts for a while.
