1999 Century Power Window Problem

Hi everyone. I rolled up all the windows in my 1999 century and went into a restaurant for lunch. When I returned to my car the front driver's side window was rolled down about 2 inches. I tried to use the control to put the window up, but it did not work. I then put the window all the way down hoping that it would go back up. It did not.

Now I am left with a front driver's side window that is stuck in the down position and will not go up. All the other windows work perfectly. When I engage the button to try and put the broken window up I can hear the sound of the motor spinning inside the door, but nothing happens.

Anyone know what I need to do to fix this problem? Thanks in advance!

Question Re: 1999 Century Power Window Problem

Sounds like the regulator has passed on . The window goes up and down with a cable and pulley type of setup . If you can hear the motor running but the window doesn't go up or down , this pulley system has failed . I don't think parts are available seperately to fix this . You'll have to replace the entire unit and most also come with a new motor . Save the old motor for future needs .The regulator from the dealer will be in the $400 range. You can probably find one on Ebay for a much lower price . Good luck and let us know the outcome !

Re: 1999 Century Power Window Problem

Thanks Blu!

The regulator was indeed the problem. Somehow the cables had jumped the tracks they were supposed to be in and had frayed badly.

I was able to find a regulator separate from the motor. It only cost me about $40 after shipping. After putting the new regulator in everything works great!

Thanks again for the help.

Anyone having similar problems should refer to this page:

It has a step by step walkthrough and pictures that make replacing the regulator yourself fairly easily.
