Gas tank leaks from ring seal?

The gas tank leaks on my 94 blazer s10 with a vortec engine my friend and i looked at the tank and the ring by undoing the metal ring and saw fuel pump gasket was fine so we put silicone on the gasket and the ring and now the gas tank still leaks gas from the same spot that we put silicone on what is the problem and what should i do????

Welcome to AF.
Are you sure the fuel lines in that area are not leaking?
Does it leak when engine is running or sitting still?
Is the tank rusted out around the sealing ring?

Re: Gas tank leaks from ring seal?

gas tank leaks while running like when im driving it you can smell it and when I start it up when it has been off all night. does not leak when shut off but the matal ring that attaches the sending unit to the top of tank has rust on it as well as top of sending unit...

Re: Gas tank leaks from ring seal?

If it leaks on startup or running you have a fuel line leaking.
Pressure or return.
Drop the tank down just enought to see the fuel lines and couplers and sending unit pipes
With everything hooked up on tank turn on fuel pump and watch for where it is leaking.
Good luck

Question Re: Gas tank leaks from ring seal?

Ok I just got back from looking at the tank and the sending unit and I started it up and the gas was leaking from one of the small matal pipes on the sending unit as the truck was running I can litarally see the gas coming out of a tiny hole that is on one of the small pipes for the sending unit this hole is close to the tank. How would I go about fixing this problem?? I was thinking maybe replace the sending unit itself. I need to know if that is right or not and if it is right I dont know how to undo the pipe connections on the old one and hook up everything on the new one could you help me????

Is it leaking before the connector?
or on the lines going into the tank?
If to the tank.
Your best fix is a new ac-delco\delphi fuel pump \hanger\and sending unit assembley.
It will come with the pump and hanger and gas pipes and sending unit all together.

Epoxy does not fix it very good.
You have a fire hazard on that kind of leak.
The part you need is the fuel pump hanger assembley.
The sending unit is only the float and resistor on the fuel pump hanger.
If low on funds you might check the local bone yards for a hanger assembley but make sure it is not rusted bad.
Good luck
