01 sunfire motor

Hi , I have a 01 sunfire GT with a 2.4 manual trans that's having motor problems,
I'm going to be pulling the motor soon , but so far it's knocking and there's metal shavings in the oil .
ok now that's cleared up, if the motor is is really bad shape once I open it up ,
I'm thinking it may be easier just to swap it out with another 2.4 .
what I wanted to know is what years are plug and play ?

thanks for any help you may be able to give me

Re: 01 sunfire motor

00-02 are plug and play.

96-99 have an EGR built into the head. You can make a block off plate for this and use the motor, but make sure you use an engine harness from a 00+
