Just had the infamous head gaskets replaced 5 days ago on my 99 Venture. Van's been running great, although hotter than before the head gasket job. Today the Low Coolant light starts flashing on and off. Never seen this before. Of course I'm thinking the worst, since I'd already had the intake gaskets replaced a month ago. I know the LCL sensor is in the radiator, so I check the cap - it is brand new, tight, and coolant comes out when I try to take it off, so I know the radiator is full. Reservoir level is right at the "Full Cold" line, same as when I picked it up from the shop, so I'm pretty sure I'm not losing or low on coolant. I checked the connector on the sensor, appears to be snug. Any thoughts? Maybe bad sensor? How can I check/test the sensor?

Re: Low coolant light flashing
Sounds strange - could it be a large air bubble that had to work it's way out of the way? Was the temp gauge moving back and forth when you drove it after the headgasket job?
Now that it has been a few more days did the light go off yet. How about some more background - what symptoms did you have a few months back that resulted in the LIM replacement. Do you now think your problem was the head gaskets all along or did that somehow develop after you did the LIM gasket. I am starting to see that it is often a bit difficult to tell if issues are LIM gaskets or headgastket problems - wouldn't you agree? |

Re: Low coolant light flashing
sound like you may have air in the system you can remove radiator cap then start van and let it run for a while( when gas is $4 + a gallon this sucks) also i think like at the top of thermostat housing there is a bleed screw not sure about this year but i think so. good luck
