Question 1994 Pontiac grandprix transmission problem

My Son-In Law on the way from work this morning, his transmission made a noise when it down shifted from over drive, it ran like it was in natural until the speed got down to about 15 or 20 mph. then it will run in 1st gear still making the noise, it want up shift if you get it fast enough to shift up it goes back to natural, also don't have no reverse. In park and in natural it still makes the noise (The nosies sounds like a grinding sound). Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately you are looking at a rebuild or replacement of your transmission. It sounds like you broke something internally and it will need to be repaired. If you want to try a used transmission you can search wrecking yards in your area at car-part.com.

Re: 1994 Pontiac grandprix transmission problem

Thanks for your reply, and sorry I haven't posted backed sooner. You were right the transmission was shot, he replaced it with one from a 1995 Chevy Lumina. New filter, new fluid but it sill want up shift from 1st gear, also it has no reverse. He checked the TCC fuse it was good. The trans came from a Chevy Lumina with a column shifter, his has a console shifter. It will go in and hold in park, even in neutral it tries to move forward. The Transmission worked in the Chevy. Any ideals? Thanks.
