Catera Problems

Hello All,

I own two 97 Cateras. One is our family car and the second is being parted out. I have owned one for 7 years and until recently everything went fine. In the last two years. I have learned a great deal about the Cateras and here is a list of common failures:


1. Radiator cracks
2. Heater Valve leaks
3. Valve covers leak
4. Blown head gaskets (water leaks internally into the engine)
5. Excessive front tire wear
6. O2 sensors go bad
7. Blocked EGR valve causing pressure to build up in the crankcase

There are more problems, but these are the most common.
