I've had a "no start" occurring about 4X a year until recently. Now the "no start" is occurring everytime I try to start the car. I'm always able to start the car after using the "Theft Deterrent Re-Learn" procedure except that it always starts after the first 10 minute sequence. This procedure was last listed by LittleHoov in "Another Starting Problem (last post 7/03/08).
I have (2) questions: 1. Am I doomed to use the "Theft Deterrent Re-Learn" procedure forever? 2. The "Theft Deterrent Re-Learn" procedure always restarts the car (after the first sequence) when I go to step 5. of the procedure. Is there any importance attached to the fact that I cannot repeat this sequence for the 2nd and 3rd time because the car started after the 1st time? |

Re: No start event/Theft Deterrent Re-Learn procedure
By "no-start" do you mean your car will crank and crank but not turn over?
Based on what you are describing, it appears the problem is with the ignition switch. Very common problem. The other question is are there any "Check engine" lights on? |

Re: No start event/Theft Deterrent Re-Learn procedure
Does almost sound like the ignition switch might be screwing up to the point it needs outright replaced, but I cant say with any sort of authority whether thats true or not.
Just know that Im thinking of replacing mine soon, because every so often, always at inopportune times, I get a no-crank with a flashing Security light. But if I let it sit for about 10 minutes, then come back out it will start right up.

Re: No start event/Theft Deterrent Re-Learn procedure
Sorry that I was not clear. By "no start" I meant "no crank" also. There is complete silence except for an "oh shyt" that comes from me. The instrument icons are lit up along with a flashing security light.
My question #2 was that I can never get to step #8 of the T.D. Re-learn procedure without the engine starting. The engine starting is a good thing but, does the system re-learn if this procedure isn't completed through step #8? |

Re: No start event/Theft Deterrent Re-Learn procedure
The ignition switch itself will cost $90-$120 depending on what brand and where you get it. LittleHoov has posted the instruction on removing and repplacing the ignition switch.
