'02 Impala: SECURITY issues back again...

108k, 3.4l.

SECURITY problems again. After happening once or twice in the past 2 years or so, the car hasn't started now twice in the last 4 days. Sometimes the SECURITY message appears on the dash and other times it doesn't. It happened to me a couple of nights ago for the first time ever. I got out of the car, locked it, then waited about 20 minutes for the reset. But it still didn't start. So then out of desperation I pumped the gas pedal a couple of times, turned the key, and it started.

Could someone refresh my memory on the correct reset procedure. And how about the resistor fix - does that really work? One other thing - is it possible that the car eventually may not start AT ALL?

IF I can remember right if you leave the key in the on position for 11 minutes the security should reset.

Thanks. I'll give that a try next time it happens ... which should be very soon given the way it's been behaving recently...
