Cylinder 6 misfire

98 Lumina 3.1L v6 with 61,000 milesHey guys got a new issue on the lumina. I was driving to work this morning and the Check engine light started blinking and i had the code read. It is Cylinder 6 Misfire. I had just changed the spark plugs at 58,000 miles, and right now i have 61,000. I dont know what the deal is it has been runing great since. What could I do to figure out what the deal is. I changed the plugs with Bosch platinums plus's, (Guys dont bash me for the boschs, If its the plugs I will go back to delco's i promise.) The wires were fine when i changed the plugs.

Is there actually a misfire or loss of power?

Pull the plug on cylinder 6. Bet'cha the center electrode has receded down inside of the insulator.

Thanks for the post guys, I got home from work and looked at the car. I had taken out #6 spark plug wire and i have posted 3 pic of the plug. I went ahead and cleared the code with the scanner and so far it has not came back. I checked the spark plug boots and wires and there is no arcing whats so ever on either end. I even checked the spark plug and it still doesn't look that bad. The links at the bottom are the spark plug pic i have for ya to see.

I took the car out once i put the plug back in. It drives fine now. Maxwedge to answer your question I think there was a misfire because i could feel the hesitation as i limped back home when 6 evidently gave out.

The plug looks good. Test the plug wire resistance to verify it is about 1,000-2,000 ohms per foot of length. I've had plug terminals pull loose inside the boots upon removal (to change plugs) and they run fine for a while - Until some of the carbon/wire burns away and the gap widens.

If that doesn't isolate the problem, exchange the plug wire positions on the coil packs between cylinders 6 and 3. If the problem recurs, check codes to see if the misfire has moved from cylinder 6 to 3. That would indicate a coil issue.

Thank for the info, Ill look into that if it does it again. I checked the plug and it looked fine to me too. It as of yet hasn't done it to me again. I will keep an eye on it. I think it was a possible freak accident on the spark's side.
