Rear End Questions

I have a 1985 caprice classic with a 305 (vin H). I was looking at getting a posi for my car. The problem is that i have no idea what the specs are for the rear end for my car is. Does anyone know the axle model, number of cover bolts and axle shaft spline count?

It is an old vehicle but some one at your local scrap yard may have this part and also have the information you need to swap out the one wheel drive for the very limited slip diff,,,I don't think it's worth it...though..

Re: Rear End Questions

You're going to have a 7.5" axle. Whether or not you have a Series I or Series II carrier depends on the gear ratio - generally 2.73 and numerically higher use the Series II while numerically lower use the Series I. Make sure you have the right carrier! Spline count will be standard for a 1985 7.5". I am not sure what that is at this point. It will be a 10 bolt - although this refers to the bolt count on ring to carrier, this is generally the same as the cover bolt count.
